A stormy night. The last wave agitated the sea. It's boiling furiously. The waves break on the rocks in a rapid run. Terrible shaggy clouds are racing across the sky. The moon peeked through the clouds and illuminated the sea and the distant rocky shore. Moonlight flickered like diamonds on the lace of foam. The onset of the enlightenment of nature brings a stream of peace to the "last clouds of the scattered storm" running across the sky.Usually very quick at work, Aivazovsky painted this painting in such a way that it reflected his state of mind, in order to depict the halo of moonlight, he danced around it with a round brush the smallest splashes of light paint, the same as the moon itself.The rocky mountains are written differently, on which almost no moonlight falls. They are depicted as dark generalized masses, with a thicker tone than the sky. The sparse detailing of their shapes still makes it possible to distinguish steep cliff breaks, crevices in the mountains and a stone scattering at their foot on the surf edge. The sea in the part where the moonlight does not penetrate is also written very widely. The waves, breaking on the coastal cliffs, permeated by moonlight, acquire a phosphorescent hue.
